Tenisiti nipon mundi në 3 sete kroatin Ivo Karlovic duke avancuar në raundin tjetër. Në moshën 37-vjecare për Ivo Karlovic arritja deri në fazën 1/8-ave të Us Open mund të konsiderohet një sukses i madh. Përballë Nishikorit kroati nuk mundi të bënte asgjë me japonezin që mbylli gjithcka në tre sete me shifrat 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. Në cerekfinalet e grand-slamit të fundit të vitit avancuan edhe Stan Wawrinka e Juan Martin Del Potro të cilët do të sfidojnë njëri-tjetrin në këtë raund. Wawrinka mposhti 3-1 me sete ukrainasin Marchenko, ndërsa Del Potro pasi fitoi setin e parë përfitoi nga tërheqja e austrikut Dominic Thiem në game-in e 5-të të setit të dytë duke u kualifikuar për më tej.
Te femrat vijoi rrugën e saj drejt titullit të 7-të në Us Open, Serena Williams. Tenistja amerikane kaloi në 2 sete kazaken Yaroslava Shvedova dhe në cerekfinale do të përballet me rumunen Simona Halep që nga ana e saj nxorri jashtë turneut spanjollen Carla Suarez Navarro. Në familjen Willams nuk kishte vetëm festë por edhe zhgënjim për eliminimin e parakohshëm të 2-herë kampiones së Us Open motrës së madhe Venus. Kjo e fundit u thye 2-1 me sete nga tenistja ceke Karolina Pliskova. Një tjetër eliminim i dhimbshëm ishte edhe ai i favorites numër 4 të turneut, polakes Agnjeska Radwanska. Kjo e fundit u mposht në 2 sete nga kroatja Ana Konjuh e cila u hakmorr në një farë mënyre ndaj Radwanskas për eliminimin që i shkaktoi polakja në Wimbledon.
