Juan Martin Del Potro është befasia e vërtetë e Olimpidës në Rio në tenis për meshkuj. 27-vjecari argjentinas i rikthyer në këtë sport pas një pezullimi 2-vjecar pasi doli pozitiv në testet antidoping, nuk di të ndalet dhe pasi eliminoi nga Lojrat Olimpike numrin 1 të Botës Novak Djokovic, bëri të njëjtën gjë edhe me spanjollin Rafael Nadal. Fituesi i medaljes së Artë në Pekin 2008 u dorëzua përballë forcës së Del Potros i cili shquhet si një tenist që jep më të mirën e tij në fushë vetëm ndaj emrave të mëdhenj. Ishte një ndeshje spektakolare dhe shumë e bukur për tu ndjekur ajo mes argjentinasit dhe spanjollit. Nadal i cili më herët kishte triumfuar në lojën dyshe sëbashku me spanjollin tjetër Marc Lopez në Rio de Janiero duke bërë të vetën medaljen e Artë në këtë disiplinë, e nisi mirë ndeshjen dhe arriti të fitonte setin e parë përballë Del Potros me shifrat 7-5. Por vetëm kaq për mbretin e Roland Garros në këtë përballje sepse më pas ndeshja foli e gjitha për Juan Martin Del Potron numrin 141 të Botës.
27-vjecari fitoi dy setet e tjerë me shifrat 6-4 dhe 7-6 duke u kualifikuar në finalen e madhe të Olimpiadës së Rios dhe në ndryshim nga Nadal që tashmë do të sfidojë Nishikorin për medaljen e Bronztë, Del Potro do të ketë përballë Andy Murray-in për medaljen e Artë. Tenisti skocez nga ana tjetër mposhti shumë thjeshtë në dy sete japonezin Kei Nishikori, i cili nuk bëri aspak rezistencë përballë mbajtësit në fuqi të medaljes së Artë në Lojrat Olimpike. Vetëm 5 game humbi në total britaniku Murray që duhet thënë se përballë Del Potros nuk do të ketë një mision të thjeshtë për të fituar një tjetër ar olimpik. Befasitë nuk munguan as në tenisin femëror aty ku porto-rikanja Monica Puig mposhti në set final favoriten e madhe dhe tenisten e momentit Angelique Kerber duke bërë të sajën medaljen e Artë. Festë e madhe në fund për 22-vjecaren Monica Puig që hyri në histori. Medaljen e Brozntë e fitoi cekja Petra Kvitova që mposhti po 2-1 me sete amerikanen Madison Keys.
