Gjatë një ndeshjeje të kampionat etiopian të futbollit mes skuadrave Defence Force dhe Welwalo Adigrat University, arbitri i ndeshjes u dhunua barbarisht për shkak të një vendimi të dyshimtë. Teksa rezultati ishte 1-1, kryesori vendosi që topi i pritur nga portieri i Welwalo Adigrat e kishte kaluar vijën fatale, duke akorduar gol për Defence, që kaloi në epërsi 2-1. Pavarësisht tentativës për t’iu shmangur dhunës, gjyqtari u arrit nga futbollistët, ndërsa një prej trajnerëve e goditi me grusht në fytyrë. U desh ndërhyrja e forcave të sigurisë për të shmangur dhunimin e mëtejshëm të arbitrit. Pas kësaj ngjarjeje Federata Etiopiane e Futbollit vendosi të pezullonte kampionatin dhe të dënonte me përjashtim përjetë nga futbolli trajnerin dhunues.
