Michael Phelps provoi shijen e humbjes në Lojërat Olimpike në Rio. Notari më i mire botëror e humbi garën 100 metër individuale të stilit flutur, duke u renditur i dyti, pas notarit nga Singapori, Joseph Schooling.
Kjo është hera e parë që ‘peshkaqeni’ nuk fiton këtë garë në katër olimpiadat e fundit. Por, më shumë sesa humbja, lajm bëri edhe fituesi.
Michael Phelps debutoi në Lojërat Olimpike të vitit 2000. Atëherë ishte vetëm 15 vjeç, duke u bërë atleti më i ri amerikan pjesëmarrës në këtë garë që prej vitit të largët 1932.
Diktatin në notin për meshkuj do ta vendoste me shpejtësi dhe në harkun e 16 viteve do të siguronte 22 medalje ari, 2 argjendi (3 bashkë këtë të fundit të marrë në Rio) dhe 2 bronzi.
Kjo e ka bërë një idhull të shumë dashamirësve të këtij sporti dhe mes personave që e kanë idhull atë, është edhe ai që e mundi në stilin flutur, 21-vjeçari Joseph Schooling.
Gara nuk ishte njohja e parë mes dy notarëve. Rrjetet sociale ‘zbuluan’ një foto të hershme të Phelps dhe notarit nga Singapori. Fotoja është e vitit 2008 dhe është bërë gjatë një takimi të notarit amerikan me fansat e vet. Mes këtyre fansave ishte edhe Joseph, që në atë kohë sapo kishte mbushur 13 vjeç.
Joseph ishte notari i parë nga Singapori që kualifikohet në finalet e 100 metërshit stil flutur dhe jo vetëm që u kualifikua, por siguroi edhe medaljen e artë. E ndërsa ai është në ngjitje, idhulli i tij është në perëndim.
I buzëqeshur në fund të garës, Michael Phelps tha se nuk ka më asnjë ‘peng’ dhe se pas Rios do të tërhiqet i lumtur nga ky sport…dhe me 27 medalje deri më tani, që mund të bëhen 28 pasi amerikani do të marrë pjesë në garën 4×100 metra këtë të shtunë.
