Gazeta spanjolle “AS” siguron se bordi drejtues i Barcelonës ka përgatitur një “plan B” në rast se nuk do të mund ta bindë Luis Enrique për ta ripërtërirë kontratën si trajner i blaugranave, të paktën edhe për një vit. Nëse kjo nuk ndodh, atëherë Juan Carlos Unzue do të ngrihet në detyrë, nga zv.trajner për momentin në trajner të parë. Luis Enrique nuk është përgjigjur ende mbi ofertën e rinovimit, duke i dhënë një afat klubit, për ta bërë këtë në pranverë. Për këtë arsye, Barcelona, edhe pse në parim duket se “Lucho” i dhuron një “po”, pra një mundësi të dytë, po mendon të jetë gati edhe nëse Luis Enrique vendos të mos vazhdojë më në stolin e saj.
Ky opsion i dytë ka një emër dhe është Juan Carlos Unzue, i cili ka edhe mbështetjen e shefit të tij aktual, Luis Enrique. Për të arritur në këtë situatë, klubi do t’i japë Enrique pozicionin e menaxherit të përgjithshëm dhe Unzue do të ulet në stolin drejtues të “Camp Nou”. Operacioni është parë si një tranzicion i qetë dhe të ketë disa ngjashmëri me atë të kryer një here, mes Josep Guardiola dhe Tito Vilanova, për mekanikën e ngjarjes, sepse atëherë nuk ishte një ndarje e papritur e Pep me bordin drejtues.

Në qershor të vitit 2012 ai nënshkroi për Racing, por nuk e ka filluar sezonin për shkak të një konflikti institucional në klubin cantabrian.
